who we are
At AnthropoCine, our mission is to use the power of film to drive action for social and environmental justice.
We are a registered nonprofit based in New York City telling stories that matter. We aim to amplify marginalized voices, highlight urgent issues, and help people feel connected, informed, and empowered to make a difference. We believe film is more than a medium for awareness. It is a catalyst for education, empathy, and real-world impact.
Founded in 2023 by graduates of the Wesleyan University film program, our team came together through a shared passion for environmental justice and purposeful storytelling. We create films that not only move audiences but also support the people and communities at the heart of each story.
We are committed to ethical and collaborative filmmaking. Too often, documentaries take from communities without giving anything back. We are working to change that by building trust, listening first, and ensuring our work gives more than it takes.
Each project is designed with action in mind. We collaborate with organizers, educators, and changemakers to make sure our films are used as tools—for starting conversations, sparking learning, and creating meaningful change.
and what we stand for
what we do
Our vision is to leverage the power of storytelling to inspire meaningful change by creating documentaries that not only highlight the experiences of marginalized communities but also contribute to their growth. Unlike many in the industry who profit from the struggles of individuals without giving back, we are dedicated to fostering community engagement and support.
We prioritize hiring local talent to ensure that the voices and perspectives of the community are authentically represented. By creating jobs and opportunities, we cultivate a collaborative environment that empowers local individuals to take an active role in the storytelling process.
Additionally, we are passionate about supporting emerging filmmakers by providing funding and resources for projects that celebrate authentic narratives. Our aim is to nurture a new generation of storytellers and build a sustainable ecosystem that benefits both the communities we document and the filmmakers who tell their stories.
Through our initiatives, we aspire to transform the relationship between filmmakers and the communities they depict, ensuring our projects result in positive, lasting change.
